I have been making far too many of these cards lately. I lost my own furry “son” at Christmastime and I still miss him often.
The thing about pet loss is that we often grieve alone. After all, people surmise that they are only animals, but that line of thinking misses the point.
Pets are our constant companions. We stroke them when we are stressed. They comfort us through our tears. They play with us when we are happy, and when we’re grumpy they love us the same. They greet us when we get home and when we wake up. They are always with us.
Our pets really do leave their paw prints on our hearts. It makes sense that there’s a giant hole when they leave us.
If you know someone who is mourning the loss of a pet, reach out to them. Send them flowers, make a meal, send them a card with a heartfelt message. Give them space to mourn.
If you are mourning the loss of a pet know that you do not mourn in secret. God sees your pain and He is there to comfort you.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.” ~ Matthew 10:29
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” ~ Revelation 21:4
