Colors of Fall | Simple Stamping Monday

Leaves, and pumpkins, and harvest, oh my! Fall is almost here, and I’m so excited! I thought I would celebrate the soon arrival of the glorious crisp air, fall leaves, and cozy sweaters with some simple stamping cards featuring the Gather Together stamp set from the new holiday catalog.

For my first card, I used the wheat stamp. I don’t know what it is, but something about wheat stalks makes my heart happy. I started by stamping my sentiment stamp in the middle with Cajun Craze, then I alternated between Sahara Sand and So Saffron to create the wheat around it. I really like the simplicity of this card.

My husband has always especially enjoyed the colors and smells of fall leaves. I experimented a bit with these two cards and had a lot of fun. For the first card, I stamped my “Wishing you well” sentiment in the middle of the card, Then I did some direct stamping with some of the leaves, and with others I did some stamping off (stamping on a piece of scrap paper before stamping on my card) to vary the colors a bit. I kind of like the end result.

For the second card, I used Saharah Sand ink on the leaf stamp and stamped off on a scrap piece of paper. Then I stamped right in the middle of my card. You could stamp your sentiment over the top of that with one color, but I wanted to try a rainbow effect. I first inked up only the bottom half of my stamp with the So Saffron ink, then I put the top part of the stamp in the Cajun Craze ink. This gives more of a two toned effect.

Once my sentiment was there, I framed the center leave with alternating leaf colors, and that was all!

I had a thought in my head for this card, and wasn’t sure how it would work out, but I’m happy with the way it ended up. For this card, I started by lining up my pumpkins all along the bottom of the card. Then, I added both sentiment stamps to the center. The really fun part was using the textured stamp from this set to create a frame. Because of the nature of this stamp it doesn’t need to be super precise, just fill in the space in a way that looks good to you. This card is truly a simple stamping card.

I wanted to add a little extra color to this card, so I brought in some watercolor pencils. You could color all the pumpkins or just a few. You could even leave all the pumpkins white and color the background. There’s really so much you could do. If you love coloring, this stamp really lends itself to some fun opportunities.

I couldn’t help myself so I brought in a little of the Come to Gather Designer Series Paper with these cards. DSP is a fantastic way to get a lot of cards without a big investment. This particular paper pack has some cards that coordinate perfectly with the stamps from the Gather Together stamp set. I simply cut a small strip of the DSP and glued it to my card base, then I stamped my sentiment, and used the matching stamps to fill up the rest of the space on the card. (I did cheat a little bit, and I used Pretty Peacock ink for the pumpkin card). Adding just a little bit of designer series paper stretches your supplies and gives you so many more options.

I’d love to see the cards you come up with using this stamp set and whatever supplies you have on hand. Which one of these simple stamping cards is your favorite. For those of you seasoned crafters, I’d love to see how you take one of these simple cards to the next level!
