Hi! I’m Laura, Independent Demonstrator for Stampin’ Up! and owner of Scraps of Encouragement. I’m a Christian homeschooling mother of three, and love being married to my best friend. My family is super important to me, and they take top priority in my world, but when I’m not exploring nature with them, teaching homeschool or engaging in the daily tasks of housework, chasing a toddler, and listening to endless stories and inventions created by my older two, you can find me at my craft desk.
For me, cardmaking began long before I ever touched a paper or stamps. With all three of my pregnancies, I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum and spent much of my time in bed and on the couch. YouTube helped pass the time and it was there that I spent hours watching cardmaking tutorials, fascinated by the creations I was seeing.
Fast forward a few years and add a cross country move. As I chatted with my friends and relatives afar, I wanted a way to send them encouragement and little reminders I was thinking about them. I knew I loved getting rare and coveted personal mail, so I thought cards would be the perfect way to send a little cheer. I soon discovered that it was hard to find just the right card, and they were EXPENSIVE. That’s when I decided to start making my own.
My stamping and card making journey began in earnest as a way to bring encouragement to others. It didn’t take long for me to discover the positive benefits crafting and creating held for me too! As I started crafting, I came alive. Even now when I’m extra grouchy my husband will say, “I’ve got the kids – take 30 minutes to make a card”. I always emerge far more amiable!
I love the time I spend creating in my own world, praying for the recipients, and typically listening to some great music. I also feel more connected with those around me and feel like I’m more on the lookout for people who need a little pick-me-up.
Being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator is so rewarding. Not only do I get to be creative every day, but I also get to be a creative coach, offering fresh project ideas and encouragement to my customers and friends. I think of it as taking scraps of paper and turning them into sprinkles of encouragement! I hope you’ll join me in finding joy in creating as you spread kindness and encouragement with your scraps of paper.
